Mental Health and Wellness Training

The Omaha Police Department (OPD) has secured funding to host Code 9 S.H.A.R.E.  Code 9 responded to their agency after the murder of Det. Kerrie OROZCO.  OPD is continuing their proactive approach to mental health and wellness, thus the free training.

Code 9’s main webpage is here.  If you select Programs, it will drop down and S.H.A.R.E.  is the option to select for more information, or just click here.  All three of the sessions that will be offered have flyers attached.  NOTE:  Date and times listed in this posting are for the first date for the first course offered.  Please make sure you note the specific dates listed in the flyers for the training of your interest.

There will be three different sessions:

AUG 9-10th for COMMAND ONLY  –  two days

AUG 11-12th for OFFICERS ONLY  –  two days

AUG 13th for FAMILY MEMBERS (adult)  –  one day

Drugs and the Criminal Justice System

The University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) is presenting blended online and in-person training on drugs and the criminal justice system.  There will be four (4) in-person sessions with the first beginning on the date listed on this posting.  This training will count towards the required CE hours for LE officers and also towards a college degree.

Resiliency Training for Non-Sworn Law Enforcement Employees

The Omaha Police Department is hosting a free 2-hour training for its non-sworn staff on Resiliency and would like to extend an invite to other agencies.  This training will be made available on four different days at various times.  NOTE:  The date and times listed in this posting are only for the first training session offered.  Please click on the below links for more detailed information.

Valley’s New Police Chief

Valley K9 Officer, James Deemer has been selected as the new Police Chief in Valley, Nebraska.  Chief Deemer replaces longtime Chief Brett Smith whose last day will be August 19, 2022.

Retaining Champions in the Field

The Bureau of Justice Assistance is providing a webcast that will discuss ideas on retaining officers and how departments can invest in their people and make them feel like more than just employees.  Please see the attached flyer for more information.  Note:  Times listed are Eastern Time.

Background Investigations

Blue Shield Tactical Systems is conducting a background investigations course at the Topeka, Kansas Police Training Center.  For more information see the attached flyer.

Red Dot Sights for Duty Pistols

This instructor development course is designed to provide instructors with
technical information related to red dot sights, mounting options, and holster considerations.
In addition, instructors will learn the best way to conduct transitional training and the types of
drills to run to address the common concerns associated with the use of RDS on duty pistols.  For more information see the attached flyer.

Tactical Medical for First Responders

The Papillion Police Department in conjunction with the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in conducting basic tactical medical training.  Participants will learn how to apply techniques to control life threatening bleeding during Care under Fire in a (HOT ZONE). Additionally, they will perform techniques to treat life threatening and non-life-threatening injuries during Tactical Field Care in a (WARM ZONE).
